The Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was presented with a single CD containing the song Ranabima Wetha Yanawa (to the battlefield) by the young band Chimes of 70 on May 12 at the Ministry of Defence.

In the picture are L-R Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, and members of the band Rukshan Karunanayake (leader and music director of the band), Isura Roshan (vocalist/bass guitarist), Devinda Karunanayake (Band Manager) and Nimal S. Perera (lyricist).

The song composed by Rukshan Karunanayake, lyrics by Nimal Perera, endorses the bravery of the young soldier and the emotional feelings his mother experiences as he leaves the house to join the Army.

He tells her not to worry too much. This song was one of the songs the band Chimes of 70 performed at their launch recently.

Following the success of this concert the band hopes to stage a concert with new songs Ragama for the entertainment of the disabled War Heroes.

Exercise your vocal cords in order to sing your heart out on June 13 at the `Sing-a-long with Annesley’ which will be held at the Palm Beach Hotel from 7.30 p.m. onwards.

The first time Annesley staged his sing-a-long at the Palm Beach Hotel was to greet the new year 2009. The occasion was mainly for families and parents who are not happy in the modern music setting.

And as Annesley tells us the last sing-a-long was a roaring success with the large crowd of music lovers singing and dancing to the music of the Super Chimes, and to the all time hits of the sixties and seventies, of the Moonstones.

This time too on June 13, the birthday of Annesley he will sing the favourites of the Moonstones plus the evergreens from their English repertoire.

The Super Chimes comprises Channa Athalagay - lead guitar, Prashan Fernando - bass, Dilip Fernando - keyboards and Asha Fernando - drums. The event is scheduled to be held at the poolside weather permitting, or else at the banquet hall. The whole evening will be in a hawker’s street atmosphere where you can enjoy a variety of Asian and Western cuisine to satisfy your taste buds.
