Swine Flu:

No need to panic

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health yesterday reiterated that the novel influenza AHINI (commonly known as Swine Flu) is not fatal like the dengue fever which has already claimed nearly 140 lives throughout the country.

Senior Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health Dr. Sudath Peiris told the Sunday Observer that people need not panic over the Swine Flu as it is neither lethal nor dangerous.

“People must be on alert over dengue as it has already spread to many areas in the country and according to the latest Health Department statistics nearly 10,000 cases have been reported from various parts of the country.

Dr. Peiris said those who have slight or high fever must seek medical advice from the nearest Government Hospital and not from a private hospital.
