Twenty eight teams in Old Bens hockey carnival

HOCKEY: Twenty eight teams will participate in the Old Benedictine’s Sports Club invitation Seven-a-Side Inter-Club and Schools Hockey Tournament to be played on June 27 at St. Benedict’s, College grounds, Kotahena. The matches will commence at 8 a.m. and the final scheduled to be played at 4.30 p.m.

The clubs participating - Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Army, Old Anandian SC (Group `A’), Old Bens SC, Sri Lanka Police, Wennappuwa Hockey Club (Group `B’), CH & FC, Sri Lanka Air Force, Old Peterite SC (Group `C’), BRC, Old Zahirians, Matale and Gymkhana Club (Group `D’).

The schools in the fray - St. Benedict’s College, Royal College, D.S. Senanayake College, Zahira College, Colombo (Group `A’), Chirst Church, Matale, Nalanda College, Joseph Vaz College, Richmond College (Group `B’), St. Thomas’ College, Matale, Ananda College, St. Sylvester’s College, St. Joseph’s College (Group `C’), Vijaya College, Matale, Dharmaraja College, Wesley College and Maris Stella College (Group `D’).

The champions in both sections will receive Golden Jubilee Trophies and cash awards, the runners-up will be presented trophies and cash. Best player and best goal-keeper of clubs and schools will be selected and receive cash awards.

Dennis de Rosayro, first Benedictine hockey captain (1954) and first Benedictine to represent Sri Lanka at hockey, President MHA for 30 years, former national umpire and coach will be the chief guest.
