Anti-sleep alarm in the market
A `balance activated' ear alarm is now available in the market, which
is expected to serve a crucial role in reducing road accidents including
fatalities due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel.
The Nap Zapper, an affordable small gadget designed to save lives. It
is an anti-drowsy alarm designed to raise the alertness of drivers,
protecting them against momentary lapses caused by sleepiness. The
simple electronic device is worn behind the right ear while driving
under tired conditions or at night. The gadget works on the principles
of electronic balance. As the driver's head nods below a preset angle
decided through research, the gadget emits an alarm alerting the driver
to take corrective action.
It simply prevents accidents and injuries but once the alarm goes
off, it is almost always a warning for the driver to take a break or
even pull over and take a nap.
The non-intrusive small device is seen as a much-needed solution in
Sri Lanka where drivers, both commercial and private, neglect health
conditions to drive under extreme pressure.
It isn't just heavy vehicle drivers including buses and trucks who
tend to drive under extreme conditions but even senior executives and
field salesmen who tend to push their limits; just a momentary lapse
often ends with catastrophic results.
Ironically, studies show very few drivers accept they could fall
victim to fatigue but would often take preventive action when prodded on
by family.
In this light, the anti-sleep `Nap Zapper' is seen as the perfect
gift for husbands, sons, brothers and friends The gadget is also seen as
a helpful aid to people working on night shifts, as well as, a sleep
deterrent for students who study at night. |
