Without being overfly flashy, guitarist/pianist Thushara Peiris has
put together his own band to meet the season commencing from next month.
Musicians are optimistic now that the clouds that they had to face are
beginning to disappear, they can get back into gear.
“I’m looking forward to the coming season and to playing at hotels
down South. My new band is called Breath” comments Thushara. Why the
name Breath? “It is a meaningful name. It signifies life especially
since my band is new”.
Thushara for a few years was playing with the well-known and popular
musician Kumara Ekanayake and his trio. Kumara has left for Australia
and Thushara felt that now was the time for him to realise his dreams of
heading a band.
With Rishani Ekanayake a new female vocalist and Priyantha Peiris
guitarist and vocalist the trio has been working hard putting together
an interesting repertoire for functions and weddings. “Rishani is the
sister of actress Nirasha Ekanayake who is now living in America and we
hope to start playing regularly at the Bentota Beach Hotel end of July.
Meanwhile I composed a song Me Paluwe Nimnaya for a video which is now
being telecast on many TV stations.
“The music for the song was composed by me, while the lyrics were by
Rajive Fernando and the video was produced by Ravi Silva,” reveals
Thushara.Hailing from a musical family his father, the well-known Tissa
Peiris was a recognised singer who had a successful career on SLBC.
Thushara’s talent is on a different track more contemporary because
he is a versatile singer able to sing Sinhala pop, English pop, Hindi
songs with the Bollywood beat. With his trio Breath he is prepared to
take on the challenge in today’s music industry.
