Air Force, Christ Church Hockey Champs

Sri Lanka Air Force and Christ Church College, Matale lifted the clubs and schools titles respectively at the Old Benedictine's Sports Club Golden Jubilee Invitation inter-club and schools seven-a-side hockey tournament played at St. Benedict's College grounds yesterday.

In the club tournament Sri Lanka Air Force reached the finals defeating Sri Lanka Army 1-0 while Wennappuwa Hockey Club defeated Old Zahirians SC Matale 1-0 in the semi-finals.

Air Force emerged champions with a 2-nil victory over Wennappuwa Hockey Club in the final.

Christ Church College and St. Benedict's College qualified to the finals after defeating St. Thomas College, Matale 1-0 and Vijaya College, Matale 1-0 in the two semi-finals.

Christ Church College, Matale came out victorious defeating St. Benedict's College by 2 goals to 1.

The champions in both clubs and school were presented the Golden Jubilee Trophies, Gold Medals and cash awards while the runner up received a trophy silver medals and prize cash.

Dennis de Rosayro, first Benedictine Hockey Captain (1954) and first Benedictine to represent Sri Lanka at hockey was the chief guest while Rev. Bro. Granville Perera, Director, St. Benedict's College was the guest of honour.
