India to play triangular in Sri Lanka
NEW DELHI, June 27, 2009 (AFP) - India will play a triangular one-day
international tournament in Sri Lanka in September with New Zealand as
the third team, the country's cricket board said on Saturday.
The teams will play each other once with the top two advancing to the
final, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a
statement.
"A total of four matches will be played during the short tour," it
said adding that the itinerary will be announced shortly.
The Indian team is currently playing in a four-match one-day
international series in the West Indies after an early exit from the
World Twenty20 in England.
The biennial Champions Trophy, to be hosted by South Africa and
involving the top eight teams, is also scheduled for September.
Antonians upset Petes 27-22
St. Anthony's College scored an upset 27 points to 22 points victory
over St. Peter's College in their inter school under 20 `A' division
league rugby tournament match worked off at Bambalapitiya yesterday.
The Antonians collected their points from one goal and four tries
after having led 17-7 at half time. The Peterites responded with one
goal and three tries.
Joes trounce Mahanama 21-13
St. Joseph's College beat Mahanama MV by 21 points to 13 points in
their inter school under 20 `A' division league rugby tournament match
played at Longden Place yesterday.
The Joes collected their points from three goals while Mahanama MV
responded with two tries and one penalty.
Army beat Police
Sri Lanka Army Sports Club defeated Sri Lanka Police Sports Club by
17 points 11 points in their SLRFU Caltex inter club `A' division league
rugby tournament first round fixture played at the Police Park
yesterday.
Army SC collected their points from two goals and one penalty after
having led 14-6 at half time. Police SC responded with one try and two
penalties. |
