Safety Day at Lafarge
As part of the "Safety Month" which has taken place throughoutJune in
all Lafarge units worldwide, in the 79 countries where the group is
present, Lafarge Mahaweli Cement joined hands with the Sri Lankan Port
Authority Training Institute and St. John Ambulance to hold its annual
"Safety Day" for its employees, families, and communities.
For Lafarge Group, the safety of its employees, families and
sub-contractors is an absolute priority. Already one of the safest
companies in its sector, Lafarge has nonetheless set itself the
objective of becoming one of the world's leading industrial groups in
terms of safety.
To achieve this, in 2006 the group drew up an ambitious roadmap,
covering all aspects of performance in terms of health and safety.
Hence, on June 28, 2009, Lafarge Mahaweli Cement (Pvt) Ltd together with
the Sri Lankan Port Authority Training Institute and St. John Ambulance
organised a program of events throughout the day to raise awareness on
various health and safety themes such as fire safety, road safety, and
first aid.
Employees, families, subcontractors and communities actively
participated in the interactive conference, events and games held right
through the day. Lafarge is the world leader in building material, with
top rankings positions in all of its businesses: cement, aggregates and
concrete and gypsum. With more than 84,000 employees in 79 countries,
Lafarge posted sales of Euros 19 billion in 2008.
