Houses for displaced fishermen

Fifty housing units will be constructed in Pallamunai in Mannar
Divisional Secretariat Division under the 'Uthuru Wasanthaya'
accelerated development project for the displaced fishermen in Mannar
District, a senior officer at the National Housing Development Authority
(NHDA) told the Sunday Observer.
Mannar District Secretary Nicholas Pillai inaugurated the
construction work on the project, NHDA sources said.
Each beneficiary family will be granted Rs. 325,000 to construct
their houses. NHDA will provide building materials for the site and the
labour requirements will be fulfilled by the beneficiary families.The
NHDA intends to complete this project within 100 days. The project has
been implemented by the Special Task Force for the accelerated Northern
Development headed by Senior Advisor to the President Basil Rajapaksa
(MP) and under the supervision of Housing and Common Amenities Minister
Ferial Ashraff.
The infrastructure development including road development, water
supply and drainage system will be carried out by relevant Government
Institutions.
Meanwhile NHDA will implement housing projects in Vavuniya and Mannar
Districts in parallel to the Pallamunai fisheries housing project.
