Postal voting on July 27, 28

Postal voting in Uva, Jaffna and Vavuniya will be held on July 27,
28. The ballot papers for postal voters will be issued from July 15,
according to the Department of Elections.Government Agent, Badulla
Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake said that 17,422 applications for postal
voting have already been received and 16,054 were accepted. According to
the Assistant Elections Commissioner of the Moneragala Secretariat
10,700 postal voting applications were received and 8,843 were
accepted.‘There will be a special awareness program on election rules
and regulations on July 20 for representatives of political parties and
Independent groups - which are contesting the forthcoming Uva Provincial
Council elections, said GA Badulla.
UPFA General Secretary’ Education Minister Susil Premajayanth said
that the Uva election campaign is being led by him and Power and Energy
Minister John Seneviratna. Pocket meetings and house to house campaigns
are in progress. Massive rallies under the patronage of the President
will be made known in due course, he said.
The UPFA General Secretary said that the Jaffna LG polls campaign is
being led by Minister Douglas Devananda, Minister Rishad Badiudeen and
Vavuniya District Parliamentarian Sumathipala leads the Vavuniya LG
polls campaign, he said.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka said that the UNP will
commence its Uva Province elections campaign on July 17.
There will be 10 major rallies under the patronage of Opposition
Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in Uva, he said. Assistant Elections
Commissioner, Vavuniya A. S. Karunanidhi said that an exclusive
seven-day training program for senior presiding officers, chief counting
officers and special voting officers commenced on July 7 at the Vavuniya
Secretariat.
The UPFA and UNP have already opened their election offices in
Vavuniya while the UPFA opened its election office in Thekkawaththa. The
UNP opened its office in Maharambakulam.
