Police seize porno CDs in raids

Police have seized 390 pornographic Blue Compact Discs (CDs) following raids on video parlours last week near schools in Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Piliyandala, Ruwanwella, Kesbewa and the Fort areas.

Six suspects were taken in for questioning in this connection, police sources told the Sunday Observer.

According to the Central Anti Vice Striking Force (CAVSF) the vendors enjoyed a thriving business renting out these Compact Discs to schoolchildren at Rs. 50 each.

Police Headquarters has received several complaints from teachers and parents regarding the pornographic Compact Discs (CDs) being sold to children to corrupt their minds.

Vendors usually hide these CDs in their video parlours, away from the other CDs, police said. These CDs with titles such as Playboy, Japan Lady, Dog and Pet, Asian Girl and Naughty Girl have been seized. The CDs include those product locally and abroad. The following number of pornographic CDs were seized from the following areas.

283 from Ruwanwella, 13 from Moratuwa, 10 from Mount Lavinia, seven from Keselwatte and 76 from Piliyandala.

IGP Jayantha Wickramaratna has instructed DIG D.A. De Fonseka and Director CAVSF, A. Ranaweera to raid video parlours. The raids were conducted by OIC CAVSF, Inspector Duminda Balasooriya and his officers.
