Army recover heavy artillery guns

With the clearing operations and de-mining processes taking place at an accelerated rate the Sri Lanka Army continues to recover more vital assets of the LTTE from the North and the East.

Based on information received by the military intelligence, the Task Force 2 under the command of Colonel Jayantha Gunaratne, a 130mm artillery gun was recovered found buried in the jungle area of Udayarkattu on Friday, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

The heavy calibre gun had been buried in an 8 feet deep ditch in a 40 feet long and 4.5 feet high iron box.

Last week the Task Force 8 under the command of Colonel G.V. Ravipriya recovered another 130mm artillery gun in the Sugandipuram area North of A35 road.

In the East, Sri Lanka Army recovered one 120mm mortar gun from the Angodawillu area in Batticaloa. In Avaddaweli, also in Batticaloa district, the Army recovered two suicide jackets along with 200kg of C4 explosives. The recoveries included 2259 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, 50 rounds of T56 ammunition and 150 shot gun cartridges.

Based on information received by the Sri Lanka Police, around 400 i-com sets were recovered along with their accessories on Friday from West Pudukkudiyirippu with the assistance of the troops attached to Task Force 8.
