Janaka Kumbukage is no stranger to the celebrity scene. As an actor who had proved his talents on stage, the wide screen as well as the mini screen, he has an ample amount of knowledge and experience working on the sets.

The talented actor will be introducing a new concept into the local stage drama scene when he will stage his latest play ‘Sulanga Mata Katha Karai’. His stage creation will go on the boards at Lumbini theatre on July 25 and 26 at 6.30 p.m.Janaka will be introducing cinematic techniques to the stage with ‘Sulanga Mata Katha Karai’.

The play deals with the theme the concept of looking at life in a loving angle rather than regarding it as a burden.

It encompasses the idea of how to cope up with the tensions of daily life and to see the beauty of it as a whole. The story rotates around a family and the conflicts that follow. It is a study of the reactions of two individuals towards the social forces which invade their paths.Janaka expresses hope of bringing the local theatregoers back to the halls with his creation.

He says that these new techniques will not have a harmful effect on live acting or its impact.“It will enhance its quality and provide a whole new experience for the viewers.

The stage is quite a powerful medium in driving home a point to the onlookers. In some of the developing countries some plays run on and on for many years and they are never short of audience,” he stressed.

‘Sulanga Mata Katha Karai’ is scripted and directed by Kumbukage and Asoka Athaudahetti. Chandani Seneviratne, Wasantha Vittachchi and a young lass titled ‘Punchi Suranganavi’ (Little Fairy) will join him in depicting the characters.

It produced by Kumudumalee Herath. The music is by Chandana Liyanage and the sound mixing is by Navaratne Gamage.Having worked under reputed figures of the stage scene like Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Somalatha Subasinghe, Ashoka Handagama, Athula Peiris, Sunil Chandrasiri and Rajitha Dissanayake, the skilled actor has developed his knowledge in the field. He had recognized the fact that the local stage scene lacks an attractive presentation that lures masses into theater halls.

After premiering at the Lumbini, the team hopes to stage a few more shows in different parts of the island. They wish to tour countries like America and Canada. An Australian tour is also set for next year.
