Kasun, Nimesha best athletes

Kasun Kalhara of Mahaweli 'B' Zoneand H.M. Nimesha Madushani of Hurulu Wewa emergd the champion men's and women's athletes respectively at the 23rd Mahaweli Games 2009 in Bakamuna, yesterday.

Asitha Kulathunga of Medirigiriya Zone won the key men's 100 metres event with a timing of 11.3 secs. while the winenr in the correspondding women's event was H.M. Nimesha madushani of Hurulu Wewa with a timing of 13.1 secs.

The champion team was Walawa Zone (87.5), runenrs-up Mahaweli 'H' (57) and Hurulu Wewa (56) in third place.

Cycle Race (Men): 1. Chaminda Pushpakumara (Mahaweli 'B'), 2. I.M. Praveen Kumara (Mahaweli 'H'), 3. Gamini Amukotuwa (Mahaweli 'B').

Cycle Race (Women): 1. A.M. Dilukshi Sumanaweera (Walawa), 2. M.R.M. Rupawathi (Mahaweli 'C'), 3. G.G. Manomi Kumari (Mahaweli 'C').

Volleyball (Men): 1. Medirigiriya Zone, 2. Walawa Zone, 3. Victoria/Kothmale Zone.

Netball: 1. Victoria/Kothmale Zone, 2. Walawa Zone.
