Jaffna Technical college to be upgraded
The Jaffna Technical College under the Ministry of Vocational and
Technical Training will be upgraded to a College of Technology and plans
are underway to start a technical park in Jaffna with all facilities
said Principal Jaffna Technical College N. Yogarajan.
Korea provided Rs. 230 million of which Rs. 90 million will be
utilised to construct the new building complex of the university and the
balance will be used to purchase machinery and equipment as well as for
training of managers and lecturers in Korea.
He said that under Uthuru Vasanthaya program 12,000 students will be
trained and already about 2000 have started the trainings in different
vocations.
Ex-combatants too are given training on technical education and
already 150 people have been trained. He said that for this program
funds are given by the Ministry of Justice.
The exhibition of the Jaffna Technical College to celebrate its 50th
anniversary will be held from August 22-28 at the technical college
premises just after the International Vocational Education and Training
Association conference.
He said that the building donated by Korea will also be opened during
this time.
