Gemidiriya inter village development program:
Over 36,000 villages to benefit
The Gemidiriya inter village development program will benefit over
36,000 villages, said Senior Presidential Advisor and Member of
Parliament, Basil Rajapaksa.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of the Gemidiriya inter
village development program at Passara Siyambalanduwa, Angunakolapelessa.
He said that the inter connectivity development program forms part of
the second phase of the Gemidiriya rural development and livelihood
improvement project funded by the World Bank.
“Under the project, the Akiriya bridge and 10 kilometres of road will
be constructed as an access to Meegahakiula benefiting the inhabitants
of remote villages such as Pitamaruwa, Roberiya, Madolsima,
Metigahatenna, Meegolla and Morabela. Over 3,500 families will benefit
by the project, he said.
Rs. 19 million has been released to the Passara Pradeshiya Sabha
which will carry out construction work on the project.
