Fillip for 20 villages in Uva

The Nation Building Ministry has embarked upon a program to develop
twenty villages in Uva under Gama Naguma.
Further development programs in 319 grama niladari divisions in
Moneragala district and 567 in Badulla district are to be launched
shortly.Accordingly a total of Rs. 280 million for Moneragala and Rs.
500 million to Badulla districts have already been allocated for 2009.
Already a sum of Rs. 338 million has been released, sources confirmed.
Development of infrastructure facilities such as roads, electricity,
water etc has been undertaken under the supervision of the Samurdhi
Authority.
It has been estimated over Rs. 10 million is necessary to develop a
particular village. Construction of Elephant Fences in Badulla and
Moneragala districts have been launched at a cost of Rs. 15 million.
Action is also being taken to provide electricity to rural areas in the
two districts under funds provided by the Government of
Iran.Arrangements have been made to complete 1,597 rural road projects
and 111 electricity and irrigation projects in Uva before the end of the
current year.
It is anticipated that a total of Rs. 1,246 million would have to be
incurred by end of this year in respect of social development,
education, health and sanitary projects implemented in Uva. |
