North-East roads spring back to life

All roads leading to the North and East have now spring back to life with people being freed from the dreaded LTTE terror.

While the reconstruction of A-9 road from Anuradhapura to Jaffna has been completed, the work on the A-32 road from Mannar to Pooneryn and Silavatura, Murunganyaya are in progress, said Road Development Minister P.B. Ekanayake.

He said that the SLTB bus service on Anuradhapura - Jaffna A-9 road was commenced last week. The fifteen kilometer main road leading to the Madhu shrine from Mannar will be carpeted before the commencement of Madhu festival on August 14. All interior roads leading to the shrine would be reconstructed as requested by the Bishop of Mannar before the festival he said.

The Road Development Authority is at work round the clock to ensure the rapid development of the Northern road network damaged during the 30 year old terrorist war the minister stated. The reconstruction work of the 69 kilometer Puttalam - Talaimannar road had already been launched. This road which lies on the coastal belt in the North-Western seaboard will certainly be a fillip to the upcoming North-East tourist industry, the Minister pointed out.
