Work on Southern Expressway in progress

The Southern Expressway from Kottawa up to Matara covers a distance of 128 kilometres.

The Expressway has four lanes. Local as well as foreign financial assistance is being utilized to build the Expressway which is being successfully carried in two main stages. One stage is being launched from Kottawa to Kurundugaha-Hetekkma. The second stage is from Kurundugaha-Hetakkma to Matara. About 75 percent of the work on the first stage has already been completed. Construction on the other stage is being successfully mooted. Work on 30 kilometres from Kurnudugaha-Hetekkma towards Galle has already been completed.

The Expressway wends through 11 junctions including Kottawa, Kahatuduwa, Dodangoda, Welithenna, Kurundugaha-Hetekkma, Baddegama, Pinnaduwa, Deegoda and Godagama.
