Smuggling in seeds and planting material :

All avenues must be blocked - SCPPC Director

There are avenues for smuggling seeds and planting material into the country and it is posing a great threat to the spread of pests and plant diseases despite strong legislations in the country, said the Director, Seed Certification and Plant Protection Centre (SCPPC ) Dr.D.H. Muthukuda Arachchi.

Malaysia Airlines now five times a week to KL

Malaysia Airlines the national carrier of Malaysia will increase its flight frequency between Colombo and Kuala Lumpur to five. The fifth frequency from Colombo will depart BIA at 1.45 am on Wednesdays from October 28.

Global FDI declines

The global FDI flow has slowed on the face of the global financial and economic crisis and in 2008 the FDI flow dropped by 14% from the peak US$1,979 billion in 2007 to US$1,697 billion, said the World Investment Report (WiR) 2009 of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
