Information Management for government
Senior Government officials spread throughout the island, Chief
Innovative Officers participated in a one-day seminar on Information
Management in Colombo recently. Themed, Information Management for
Government, the seminar consisted of subject knowledge given by two
experts in e-Government from IBM India and the participants were given
an opportunity to think collectively to make Government service more
efficient.

Deshapriya said: The whole world is asking for good governance.
Administrators are pushed to look for new vistas and adopt better
management practices and better tools including internet, web-site to
web-site communication for higher efficiency. Requesting Deshapriya said
that it was a great opportunity that the seminar offered for all
participants to be exposed to the latest thinking on information
management in Government and to exchange views on how to face up to the
current state where citizens want from public servants better and
efficient service. These Senior Government Officers have been playing a
central role in executing the Re-engineering Government programme from
2005.
Annually they have been exposed to local and foreign experts and
practitioners in e-Government to increase their know-how. In addition
the seminar featured several informative and lively presentations aimed
at giving participants a useful carry-home package of thinking that
would give rise to appropriate practical applications. These will go a
long way in enabling their active leadership in making the benefits of
the best applications in information management accrue to the people
receiving public service. |
