Ministers predict historic victory

Dulles Alahapperuma Dr. Sarath Amunugama

Senior Cabinet Ministers predict a historic victory for the UPFA at the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election.

Transport Minister and Matara district Chief SLFP Organiser Dulles Alahapperuma said that the latest survey has indicated that UPFA would win the election obtaining more than 85 percent of the total votes. It will be far ahead of Uva, Central and Western Provincial Council votes the UPFA obtained.

In the SPC election the Opposition UNP and JVP as well as some foreign elements who oppose Sri Lanka's forward march under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, would learn an unforgettable lesson. The patriotic Sri Lankans specially the Ruhunu people have no choice for a better leader than the present leader Mahinda Rajapaksa who liberated the country from the ruthless LTTE terrorists, who controlled the Northern and Eastern parts of the country with the backing of some foreign elements - for nearly three decades, he said.

The Provincial Council leaders including UNP and JVP supporters are rallying round President Mahinda Rajapaksa's leadership. All UNP Provincial Council members of Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya and Kirinda in Kamburupitiya electorate had crossed over to SLFP during the last few weeks. Whatever is said and done by the UNP and JVP leaders they would certainly face the reality once the results are made public, he said.Undoubtedly UPFA would win 15 seats out of 18 seats in the Matara district, although 14 seats were expected at the beginning of the SPC election campaign, he concluded.

There will be a historic victory for UPFA. The victory at the Southern Povincial Council election will be historic since the masses want to send a strong message to the world that they want to protect their President and the Security Forces who led the battle and crushed the LTTE to liberate the country, said Prof. G. L. Pieris Minister of Export Development and International Trade and acting Minister of Posts and Telecomunication."Today the country as a whole is enjoying the benefits of eradicating terrorism from its soil.

People are dead against the moves by certain western and local supporters of terrorism to take the President and the Forces before the International Criminal Court. It is time for the Government together with the people to consolidate the hard won victory, the Minister reiterated.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that the results of the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election will deliver a strong message to the world as well as to the traitors who produced fake video clips to tarnish the image of the country."This is not a political issue. But a threat to the reputation of the country and its sovereignty.

The Minister said that he is confident that the SPC election victory will register, an 85 percent of the total votes.
