Lanka-Dutch judicial matters discussed

Chief Justice Asoka de Silva and Minister of Justice and Law Reforms,
Milinda Moragoda met the Chairman of the Netherlands Council for the
Judiciary, Erik van den Emster in the Hague.
The role of this council is to support the Courts in the executing of
their tasks, including the allocation of budgets, supervision of
financial management, personnel policy, ICT and housing. In addition it
promotes quality within the judicial system and advises on new
legislation which has implications for the administration of justice.
The Council also acts as a spokesperson for the judiciary at national
and international levels.
The Chief Justice and the Minister discussed the possibility of
obtaining capacity-building support and training assistance for Sri
Lankan judges and the Judges Training Institute. The possibility of
organising exchange programs for judges was also discussed.The Sri
Lankan Ambassador to the Netherlands, Grace Asirwatham, and Justice K.
T. Chitrasiri, Judge of the Court of Appeal and Sri Lankan Embassy
officials were also present at the meeting. |
