Cargills Magic comes from fresh milk
The true Magic of Cargills Magic ice cream is in the fresh milk.
Entering the industry in 2002 the team identified the need to create a
market shift in the stagnating ice cream industry. Cargills launched its
Magic ice cream range switching from a popular and more cost-effective
vegetable fat recipe to pure fresh milk based ice cream which proved to
be a turning point for the business, the industry, the brand and the
community.
The concept of real ice cream with fresh milk not only enhanced the
nutritional value of the product as compared to ice creams with
vegetable fat, but also boosted the development of the dairy community
in Sri Lanka.
In total Cargills has expanded its network of dairy farmers to 5,000,
said General Manager, Cargills Quality Foods Deva Weerasuriya, .
The Cargills Magic purchasing system operates on the principles of
fair trade offering the highest market price to the society which in
turn directly pays the dairy farmers.
General Manager-Cargills Magic Nimal Pathirana said. The prices are
determined on the quality of the milk supplied by the society. Thereby
all members of the society are collectively responsible for the quality
of the milk supplied.
An important feature of the Cargills Magic milk procurement system is
that the milk payment is not on a flat rate but calculated based on
actual test results of the samples of milk collected from farmers on
daily basis.
