NCC well placed

NCC winning the toss amassed 458 runs in their Premier League Tier 'A' cricket match against SL Army who were shot out for 116 and following on were 19 for 1 wicket on the second day at NCC grounds yesterday.

W.G.R.L. Wijenayake did the damage claiming 5 for 37 giving his side a 342-run first innings lead.

A compelling century of 178 with the help of 16 fours and two sixes by former St. Peter's captain Angelo Perera was the high point on the second day with fine two half centuries from W.C. Akalanka Ganegama (93), Dasun Tharaka Kottehewa (63 n.o).

The match will be continued today.

NCC: 458 for 8 in 121 overs (Angelo Kanishka Perera 178, W.C. Akalanka Ganegama 93, Dasun Tharaka Kottehewa 63, Dinesh Chandimal 47, P. P. Mahasen Peiris 3 for 69, Seekkuge Prasanna 3 for 126).

SL Army: 116 (Sulan Lahiru Jayawardene 18, D.A.S. Gunarathne 20, W.G.R.L. Wijenayake 5 for 37, N.C. Komasaru 2 for 20, C.K.B. Kulasekara 2 for 32 and 19 for 1).

Alwis 219 helps Saracens 445

Superb 219 by twenty one year old W.G.R.K. Alwis inclusive of 27 boundaries guided Saracens Sports Club to an imposing total of 445 runs in their Premier League Tier 'A' cricket match against Colombo Cricket Club on the second day at CCC grounds yesterday.

CCC made a bold reply of 185 for 3 at the close. D.K. Ranaweera 79 and K.G.N. Randika 65 were the main run getters for CCC.

Saracens Sports Club won the toss and elected to bat first. The match will be continued today.

Saracens: 445 in 112.1 overs (W.G.R.K. Alwis 219, M.D. Randika 69, M.I. Rathnayake 51, W.R.D. Wimaladarma 40, S.S. Pathirana 4 for 103, S.D.S. Boralessa 3 for 99).

CCC: 185 for 3 in 66 overs (D.K. Ranaweera 79, K.G.N. Randika 65, W.M.M.W.E.V. Gangoda 2 for 34, K.R.M.D. Kaluarachi 1 for 24).
