Ranga helps Negombo amass 342/6

CRICKET: A brilliant knock of 100 not out by Ranga Dias helped
Negombo Cricket Club to amass 342 for 6 declared in 83 overs on the
opening day of their P. Sara Trophy Cricket Tournament match against
Kandy Youths Cricket Club which began at open Prison Camp ground at
Pallekele yesterday.
Ranga Dias was in such sparkling form that he hit 8 fours and 6
massive sixes and reached his hundred in 83 balls. It was a show of
controlled hitting and the Kandy Youths bowlers could hardly contain
him.
Earlier Ashane Silva batted well to score 93 with 10 fours and 1 six
in 102 balls. Also batting well were Samadhi Fernando 53 and Ralby
Tissera 53. Today, the Kandy Youths will face a difficult task in over
hauling their opponents total.
Negombo CC: 342 for 6 decl. in 83 overs (Ashane Silva 93, Sanath
Fernando 53, Ralby Tissera 50, Ranga Dias 100 not out and Kasun
Ekanayaka 3 for 82).
Kandy Youths CC: 15 for no loss in 9 overs.
CR’s Tag Rugby on Oct. 24

RUGBY: Twenty four teams will vie for honours at the ‘CR Long
Bar Tag Rugby Festival 2009’ under lights at CR & FC’s Longden Place
grounds on October 24 Saturday.
This sevens competition will have two male players over 35 years of
age on October 1, 2009, two male players over 30 years on October 1,
2009, two male players over 25 years on October 1, 2009 and one female
player.
A handsome ‘Champions Trophy’ and “Runners-up Trophy’ will be on
offer in a tournament which the officials had raised the number of
contesting teams from an original 16 because of the large number of
entries.
No ‘A’ division club players who participated in the 2009 League
season will be eligible to participate in the tournament.
The Tournament Director Dilroy Fernando said that this is the second
successive year the popular tournament is being held under a carnival
atmosphere.
Cambrians hockey champions

HOCKEY: Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa emerged champions of the
Western Province Inter-School Under-15 Hockey Championship when they
beat D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya, Colombo by one goal to nil played at
Wesley College grounds Campbell Park. Dinesh Chamara scored the only
goal for Cambrians.

Antonians SC by 11 runs.

Dharmaraja College, Kandy were in command at the end of the first
day's play in their inter school cricket match against Sri Sumangala
College, Panadura which began at Lake View Grounds in Kandy
yesterday.Only Sameera Harshana 50 and Madawa Chathuranga 41 not out
offered some resistance and took the total past the 150 mark.
Medium pacer Tharaka Silva took 4 for 45 and off spinner Rahula
Ekanayake 5 for 30.At close the Rajans had replied strongly with 178 for
5.
