Royal College among world's best

Royal College, Colombo was selected as one of the best innovative schools in the world by Microsoft.

Commenting on Royal College's award, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said this was a wonderful achievement by a local school.

He described Royal's effort as a unique gift to the country. He congratulated Royal principal Upali Gunasekera and his staff, students and old boys for winning this prestigious award. The minister said that this was a fine example for other schools to emulate.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga hailed it as highly commendable. Royal is truly a national college with students from all parts of the country. This shows the creativity and innovativeness of our students, he said. He also said that this was a big shot in the arm for President Mahinda Rajapaksa's initiative to take IT and English to rural areas by declaring 2009 the Year of IT and English. "It will not take very long for even rural schools to achieve this feat," he said.
