6.3% projected by 2011:
‘Steady growth in Lankan economy’
The Sri Lankan economy is forecast to expand to
5.6% in 2010 and pickup more strongly to 6.3% in 2011, said Chief
economist Ram Rating Dr. Yeah Kim Leng making a presentation themed
Economic Outlook Sri Lanka. Dr. Leng said that high sustained growth
is possible with appropriate policies and strategies.

Powerloom supports Lankan garments
Powerloom Development and Export Promotion
Council of India together with the Ministry of Commerce and
Industries, India will set up a warehouse in Sri Lanka within a
short time to support the Sri Lankan garment industry which will
help them to reduce the cost as well as the lead time, said Chairman

Sri Lanka-Pakistan trade:
Minor hiccups, major hindrance
Negative trade balance is not always negative.
It could be looked in a broader context said the Head of Chancery of
the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka Balal Akram. Referring to
the negative trade balance between the countries which is favourable
to Pakistan Akram said that 35 per cent of Sri Lankan imports from
Pakistan are raw material for the apparel industry.
