‘Thief’ caught with his trousers down
A Romanian man who tried to climb through a tiny supermarket window
became stuck for 11 hours with his pants out. Trapped halfway through
the gap, the alleged thief had wriggled to free himself when his
trousers fell off.
The owner of the supermarket, Antonio Oliveira, arrived at work to
find the 22-year-old lodged in the hole showing his boxer shorts to the
street. Mr Oliveira said: “He lost the support on the inside and also on
the outside because he could hardly touch the floor with the tips of his
toes. For two hours the fire brigade struggled to release the
22-year-old while locals of the Portugese town gathered to laugh at him.
Once freed, the man was taken into police custody.
Daredevil kitesurfer in amazing pier leap
A daring kitesurfer has shocked onlookers after jumping 100ft over a
pier. Jake Scrace used the stormy conditions to leap across Worthing
pier in West Sussex. He said that he had been planning the attempt for
six years.
“The conditions were perfect - plenty of wind, not too gusty, and I
was feeling confident out there” he said. I don’t think I’ll do it
again. Once is enough and the council probably aren’t very pleased.”
Jake, who is 25 and from Worthing, sells custom-made kiteboards and is
an experienced surfer.
His friend Lewis Craften also made the jump, but neither would
recommend copycat attempts. “It is definitely a case of ‘don’t try this
at home’,” said Jake. “I didn’t wear a helmet because it can affect your
balance. That is just personal preference. “But this is very dangerous.
I have looked at this for six years. You could be seriously hurt or
killed. Jake is already planning his next challenge which he says may
involve ‘other piers or obstacles’.
Rugby kick hits the jackpot
An amateur rugby player has struck it lucky by winning a crossbar
challenge competition worth £250,000. Job Centre worker Stuart Tinner
hit the bar with an amazing shot from 30 metres - and all he wore on his
feet were socks!
The competition was held at half-time during Saracens’ 24-23 victory
over South Africa at Wembley. The 24-year-old, who plays hooker for
Welwyn RFC fifth team in Hertfordshire, was the first of three
supporters picked at random from the 46,000 crowd after applying to take
part in the competition by text message. “I guess I just kicked it as
hard as I could and I don’t really believe what happened” said he. “If
you’re going to feel the ball then you can’t have shoes on. You’ve got
to really get a feel for the ball.” Stuart says he plans to buy a flat
and a new car. |
