German national found dead

Wadduwa police are conducting investigations on the sudden death of a German national (47) who died under mysterious circumstances at his room in a luxury tourist hotel at Pothupitiya South at Wadduwa on Thursday, a police spokesman told the Sunday Observer.

The foreigner’s body was found on the bed when a room boy entered to clean the room. Wadduwa police visited the hotel after the Hotel Manager informed them of the mysterious death of a foreign tourist at their hotel.

A spokesman for the hotel said that the unmarried German had checked into their hotel a fortnight earlier. “He probably had died of a heart attack in his sleep,” he said.

Police said that they did not suspect foul play as there were no injuries on his body.

“He had neither left a suicide note at his bedside nor had he consumed any poisonous substance,” Wadduwa police said.

His body is now lying at the Panadura hospital and a postmortem examination will be conducted.

Police said the postmortem examination scheduled for last Friday could not be conducted as the hospital authorities were awaiting the medical report of the deceased to arrive in the country. Wadduwa police are conducting investigations.
