Fillip for children's education in Jaffna islets

The Education Ministry has focused special attention on the education
of over 2,200 children who are studying in Karainagar, Delft, Ninathivu,
Analaithivu, Punguduthivu and Velanathivu.
Deputy Education Minister M. Sachittananda made a four-day
observation tour in the five islands last week. He was a special
representative of Education Minister Susil Premajayanth.According to
Education Ministry sources there are 21 schools in these islands and
steps will be taken to upgrade the education facilities of these
schools, before the end of the year.
Referring to a recent visit to the islands, Deputy Education Minister
Sachittananda told the Sunday Observer that prompt action will be taken
not only to improve the quality of education of students in the island
schools, but also to renovate existing school buildings.Minister
Sachittananda, the first Member of Parliament, who made an official
visit to the island schools with the dawn of peace said that he had
discussed the educational activities with principals, teachers and the
parents of the children.
On their arrival to the islands by boat, the Minister and the team
were given a warm welcome the islanders called upon the Ministerial
party to give priority to improve the education facilities of their
children, since their education had been neglected due to various
reasons during the past several years. |
