Palestinian Solidarity Day today
Co-Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with
Palestine Imithiaz Bakeer Markar, in his message on the occasion of the
International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, says "In
1977, the United Nations' General Assembly called for the annual
observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with
the Palestinian People (Resolution 32/40 B).
"Solidarity refers to the feeling of unity based on common goals,
interests and sympathies."We share the Palestinians goals for freedom
and justice and their dreams of being able to live in their own homes
and to work in their own land. We share their immense grief in the
tragedy of being criminally denied of a home and of freedom for over six
decades."The plight of the Palestinian people is a scar on the
conscience of humanity. As a nation which had experienced centuries of
colonization and a three-decade-long internal conflict, we Sri Lankans
truly realize the value of freedom and justice.
We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people for their right to
freedom and justice". |
