CRICKET: Bangladesh created a piece of history for themselves when
they became the first team to register a win at the newly opened
Pallekelle Cricket Stadium by defeating Sri Lanka in a ‘warm up’
under-19 junior match played at Pallekelle on Friday.
Bangladesh won by 115 runs when bad light stopped play and Duckworthy
and Lewis System came into play. Bangladesh made merry and scored 298
for 7 in 50 overs and Sri Lanka replied with 169 for 9 when they should
have scored 274 to win under the Duckworth and Lewis System.
The honour of scoring the first half century on the new grounds fell
to Anamul Haqq of Bangladesh who made a swashbuckling 70 with 11 fours
and 1 six. For Sri Lanka Angelo Jayasinghe top scored with 70, but in
the end it became a vain effort as the other batsmen failed to live upto
expectations.
Bangladesh: 298 for 7 in 50 overs (Anamul Haqq 70, Hallaldeen Dadu 40
not out, Hassanul Haqq 27, Manimul Haqq 27, Chathuranga Kumara 4 for 55,
Kasun Chanuka 2 for 53).
Sri Lanka 169 for 9 in 45 overs (Angelo Jayasinghe 70, Nadeesha
Nanayakkara 28, Adil Reyal 26, Kamrul Islam 4 for 31, Noor Hussain 2 for
34). |
