Sri Lanka Cricket launches project to coach girls

CRICKET: To popularize cricket among girls schools, Sri Lanka Cricket
has started a project on the 14th of November, 2009 at the Police
Grounds, Kandy where many girls schools participated.
Among the schools that participated were: Mahamaya, Pushpadana, Girls
High School, St. Anthony's Convent to name a few. Sunil Fernando,
cricket coach of Central Province and Bernard Perera, the District Coach
(former Sri Lanka Test cricketer) registered the players.
Sunil Fernando said that even the school leavers can join this
project and that they will form teams from the girls registered and have
some matches among them and select the best.In the past, former
President of the then Womens Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, Gwen
Herath, started a similar scheme and provided cricket materials for
Kandy girls schools as well as most of the outstation schools.
