Antonians take major honours

St. Anthony's College, Kandy took major honours in their annual inter-school under 19 cricket tournament match against St. Joseph's College which ended in a draw at Darley Road yesterday.

The Antonians went on to snatch a close first innings lead while piling up a huge 305 for 8 in their first innings. The Joes were then skittle out for just 133 runs in their second attempt with Adel Riyal claiming a six wicket haul.

St. Joseph's College however retained the 'Murali-Vaas Trophy' by virtue of winning the 2008 encounter under the captaincy of Ruwantha Fernandopulle at the same venue.

St. Joseph's: 292 and 133 (A. Riyal 6 for 64, A. Premaratne 2 for 20, E. Seneviratne 2 for 10).

St. Anthony's: 305 for 8 decl (H. Wickremasekera 83, D. Kumarasinghe 41, P. de Silva 48, D. Aravinda 31, A. Premaratne 34, E. Seneviratne 23, D. Dhambarage 2 for 87, R. Thatill 3 for 55) and 43 for 2 (H. Wickremasekera 23 n.o.).
