Kandy's Law-Medical match to be revived

CRICKET: The annual Law-Medical cricket match of Kandy will be revived often a lapse of 4 years. A meeting in this regard will be held at Asgiriya Stadium today (Sunday) at 9.00 a.m. to discuss the date, venue and other details regarding the match.


Mahamaya vs KCA XI today

CRICKET: The cricket team of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy will meet the juniors of the Kandy Cricket Academy (KCA) in a 30-over cricket match at Mahamaya Grounds on today (March 7). Play starts at 1.00 p.m.

Niluka Mortimer will lead Mahamaya XI while Milinda Bandara will captain the Juniors of Kandy Cricket Academy.


All-Island Veterans Meet April 3 and 4

ATHLETICS: All-Island Veterans Athletic Championship will be held on the 3rd and 4th of April 2010, at the Bogambara Grounds. This meet is held in Kandy after a lapse of 2 years and persons over 35 years of age can participate at this meet.

This meet will be held for men and women every 5 years. Details could be obtained from the following:

Trinity after conceding a first innings lead to Prince of Wales fought back to prevent Cambrians gaining an outright victory in their inter school under 19 cricket match worked off at Moratuwa.

Trinity : 174 and 130 for 6 (Niroshan Dickwella 22, Heshan Wanniarachchi 24, Rajitha Jayatunge 28, Malshan Mendis 2 for 43).

Vidyalians’ fifth win

Moratu Vidyalaya beat the formidable Mahanama College, Colombo by six wickets to register their fifth victory for the season in their inter school under 19 cricket match worked off at Moratuwa.

Mahanama batting first made 179 runs and in reply Vidyalians notched up 282 runs. In their second essay visitors did well to score 250 runs with Danuska Gunatilleke and Dilshan Rusiru making 53 and 80 runs respectively.

Ruhuna - Wayamba qualify to play in final

CRICKET: Hirdaramani Ruhuna and Wayamba set up a final showdown while recording convincing victories in their Bank of Ceylon Inter Provincial Twenty20 cricket tournament semi final matches worked off at the Moratuwa Stadium yesterday. Ruhuna put up a splendid performance to beat the reigning one day champions MAS Kandurata by seven wickets while Wayamba had the better of Basnahira South by nine wickets in a one sided encounter. The final between Ruhuna and Wayamba will be worked off at the same venue today.

The chief scores - 1st semifinal:

Kandurata: 102 in 18.3 overs (T. Samaraweera 25, C. Kapugedera 26, K. Weeraratne 29 n.o, S. Weerakoon 2 for 16, S. Senanayake 2 for 9).

Ruhuna: 106 for 3 in 9.4 overs (S. Jayasuriya 35, D. Chandimal 35, M. Muralitharan 2 for 12).

2nd semifinal:

Basnahira South: 117 in 18.4 overs (N. Zoysa 41, C. Welagedera 3 for 19, T. Perera 3 for 18).
