Kusal leads team to Malaysia

CRICKET: Kusal Mendis of Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa
will be the captain of the Sri Lanka Schools Under-15 Cricket Team in
the Quadrangular Cricket Tournament organised by the Malaysian Cricket
Association which will be worked off from March 28 to April 4, 2010 in
Malaysia.
Shehan guides Cambrians to victory

CRICKET: Shehan Jayasuriya hit a quick fine 125 runs which
included eleven hits to the ropes and nine over it is only 65 balls
which enabled Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa trounce Dharmasoka
College, Ambalangoda by a huge margin of 155 runs in their inter-school
under-19 limited over cricket tournament match organised by the SLSLA
and played for the Munchee Trophy.
By virtue of this victory Cambrians have entered the quarter-finals.
Thisaru de Mel contributed 73 runs. In reply to Cambrian massive total
of 338 runs Sokians made 183 with N. Uttamadasa scoring 48 runs.

Hiruni wins a double

Twelve year old Hiruni Weerasekera won a double and helped Hillwood
Girls College to become champions at the Independence Cup Tennis
Championship organised by the Kandy Garden Club and worked off at the
Garden Club tennis courts in Kandy.
Hiruni who was the star of the meet won the under 13 title with a
smashing 7/2 win over her schoolmate Nimaya Ganhewa. She also won the
under 15 singles title in the same fashion over the same opponent by the
margin of 7/3.
Another player to dazzle was Dilenthi Dissanayake of Mahamaya Girls
College who also won two titles. Coming from a family deeply entrenched
in tennis Dilenthi first won the under 19 singles title defeating Tanya
Krishnamenon 7/1 and also later wrapped up the Womens Open titles by
defeating Tanya Krishnamenon by the close margin of 7/6.

Trinity by 53 runs

Trinity College scored a 53 run win over Isipathana College in a
Schools Munchee under 19 cricket tournament organised by the Sri Lanka
Schools Cricket Association and played at the Asgiriya stadium, Kandy
yesterday.
This was a replay of as match played two days ago when it ended in a
tie with both teams scoring 153 all out. This match was also shrouded in
controversy as the Trinitians protected against the bowling actions of
two of their opponents bowlers.
Yesterday one of these bowlers was cautioned by one of the umpires
for suspected delivery action. Thereafter there was no problem said one
of the umpires.
Trinity: 223 all out in 44 overs (Kithmal Wimalaweera 18,
Kheliya Athugoda 36, Kavinda Jayasuriya 34, Dushan Ranasinghe 32, Akila
Jayasundera 23, Danushka Fernando 2 for 41, Chamara Waduge 4 for 51)
Issipathana: 141 for 5 wickets in 38.4 overs (Dhanushka
Sandruwan 40, Dimuth Warapitiya 51, Chamara Waduge 19 not out, Heshan

DSS - Mahanama a draw
CRICKET: Skipper Charith Jayampathi hit a fighting century to
help D.S. Senanayake College force a draw to their fourth annual
inter-school Battle of the Golds Big Match against the traditional
rivals Mahanama College which concluded at the SSC ground in Maitland
Place yesterday.
Jayampathi's ton included fifteen boundaries was the highlight of the
D. S. Senanayake total of 277 for 3 wickets on the final day of this
match. In last year's Big Match too he scored a century and this is his
second century in the series.
Earlier Kaveen Silva made a superb century (103 runs) which included
eleven boundaries which helped D.S. Senanayake reach a commanding total
in the first innings. Silva put on a stand with 219 for the fourth
wicket along with Charith Jayampathi.
The match was called off early due to bad light and rain. The fourth
annual Battle of the Golds was sponsored by Dialog Telecom.
Mahanama: 285 for 7 (Dulika Thissakuttige 102, Dhanushka
Gunathillake 79, Sajith Ruberu 36, D. Rusiru 31, Vidura Sanchitha 2 for

Silver cup soccer final today
FOOTBALL: Colombo Football Club the junior team to participate
in the Most Prestigious Silver Cup Soccer Championship will confront the
defending champions Java Lane SC today at City Football League Ground.
Play is scheduled to kick of at 3.30 pm.
Silver Cup Soccer Championship organised by the City Football League
is one of the oldest soccer tournaments to be conducted in the district.
The Colombo Football Club which is formed only two years ago has
taken a great stride to reach the final in a major tournament in very
short period is an achievement which should come in for commendation
from all corners.
Their presence in this final is sure to prove the Colombo Club that a
new set of boys have made a strong bid to enter big time soccer and
could pose a big challenge to all leading clubs in the Colombo League.
Meanwhile Java Lane SC from Slave Island, a longstanding club is
ready to take the challenge through their experience gained in the past,
specially it being a club appearing in the Premier League they should
try to maintain their past prestige. |
