Sunshine all the way!

Many think of a water adventure with just a boat ride but do you know that there are plenty of exciting water rides you can indulge in? We took a break from our hectic schedules to swing by the Sunshine Water Sports Centre at Aluthgama to dabble in a water adventure of our own!

First up was the adventure we had on an amazing water tube ride where the boat rider wheeled us around and around the Bentota bay. It definitely was a thrill that we felt the adrenaline sending shock waves through our body. We also did a bit of water skiing and jet skiing where we practised our moves on the water. It sure felt like we were walking on water.

Next we tried the jet ski where jets of water spurted to give us another heart-racing thrill of the water.

We also tried a bit of kayaking where my partner kept acting like a captain ordering me to “Turn, turn, turn!”

We ended the water-tripping excitement on a high note with a magnificent mangrove boat ride where we discovered the swampy mangrove forest of Bentota, rather like an Amazon jungle adventure.

Thusal Gunawardena, the owner of the Centre said that they have lots of rides encompassing tube rides, jet skis and water skiing. “We always believe that safety comes first so we ask all our visitors to wear life jackets if something happens. We even ask this of our most experienced visitors because we believe prevention is better than cure,” he said. He added, “We also give windsurfing lessons where our visitors can take full benefit of the good breeze and water waves at Bentota”.

The 10 member team at the Centre is also very helpful and can help you overcome any fear that you may have. “We can even teach you to swim because this is important when taking to more rigourous sports such as windsurfing and water skiing because we believe in offering our visitors the best of water sports thrills” he said.

Thusal mentioned that they welcome Sri Lankan women because they should learn to love the water and not fear getting sun burnt.

The Sunshine Water Sports Centre has even strengthened team work between our very own Sri Lankan national team cricketers to take up water sports as a hobby.

So take the plunge and make the dive into water sports to steer into a water adventure thrill!
