Royalist Shavendra regains top slot
Shavendra Edirisuriya of Royal College, Colombo and Malinda
Samarasekara of Maris Stella College, Negombo regained the top slots
after another enthusiastic week of voting at the Observer-Mobitel
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year most popular contests.
With
only a month away from the grand finale, there has been greater interest
and a keen battle for the most popular ‘crowns’ in Sri Lanka’s first
ever schools cricket awards presentation hosted by the Sunday Observer
and sponsored by Sri Lanka’s premier mobile service provider - SLT
Mobitel.
Edirisuriya polled 5,640 votes last week to increase his tally to
85,701 and displaced his team mate Kithruwan Vithanage from the top slot
in the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
All-Island contest.
Vithanage (85,388), who led until last week, dropped to third place
after securing 4,339 fresh votes.
Chathura Peiris of St.Peter’s College moved a step forward to take
second place with 85,499 votes - 202 votes behind the leader Edirisuriya.
There is a similar close tussle for supremacy in the Observer-Mobitel
Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Outstation contest with
Maristonian Samarasekera polling 69,001 votes to take the lead. He
displaced last week’s leader N. Rajaguru of Nugawela Central to second
place with 68,887 votes. K. Wickremarachchi of Gamini MV, Bentota
remains in third place with 68,802 votes.
