Facelift for city

The Colombo Municipal Council has undertaken a crash program to beautify the city and to rehabilitate its road network in view of the Indian Film festival to be hosted by Sri Lanka from June 2 to 4 in Colombo, the Chief City Administrator Omar Kamil told the Sunday Observer.

He said the Colombo Municipal Council along with the Tourist Board will decorate the Colombo city and the road from the Katunayaka airport to Colombo city and the roads leading to five star hotels.

“Apart from this the CMC has undertaken a crash road rehabilitation project costing Rs.75 million to improve the road network leading to the places where the festival is going to be held”, he said.

It is expected that more than 2500 film fans and 500 Indian film stars will take part in the events from June 2 to 4.The film festival will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on the June 4.

Apart from the festival, a cricket match between the Sri Lanka and Indian film stars will be held at the SSC ground. A fashion show will also be held at the BMICH as part of the festival.
