Six dead, 50 wounded in Mogadishu blasts
MOGADISHU, May 1, 2010 AFP -
At least six people were killed Saturday and a further 50 injured in
two explosions at a crowded market area in the Somali capital Mogadishu,
officials said. "I saw six people dead and more than 50 wounded," Ali
Muse, the head of Mogadishu's ambulance service told AFP, adding some
bodies had been removed from the scene before he arrived. The explosions
went off near a mosque in Bakara market, he said.
An official of the Al Qaeda-inspired Shebab Islamist group told AFP
the blasts targeted its head of mobilisation Sheikh Fu'ad Mohamed Khalaf,
better known as Fu'ad Shongole, who was in the mosque.
But Shongole was unhurt in the blast, the official said.
