De Mel wins April monthly medal

Henry de Mel won the overall nett title at the April Monthly Medal
Golf Championship of Victoria Golf and Country Resort and worked off at
the picturesque Victoria gold course at Rajawella.
Henry de Mel a comparatively newcomer to Victoria played to a
handicap of 21 to register a Nett score of 70 and was ahead of Ian Tait
and Per Cramborn who both get 72 nett and Ian Tait was adjudged
runner-up on a count back on the last nine holes.
Englishman Tait who registered a gross score of 78 won the Gross
title for men followed closely by Sujeewa Lankatilleke who got 79 gross.
The next three places were occupied by Per Cramborn 91 (on a count back
on the last nine holes), Henry de Mel 91 and Sam Gunaratne 93.
The ladies nett title was won by Manori Jayakoddy with nett total of
78 playing to a handicap. But Suwen Selvaratnam and Fran de Mel came up
with equal scores of 78 nett with three golfers getting the same, the
deadlock was broken on a count back on the last nine holes and Manori
Jayakoddy emerged winner with Suwen Selvaratnam and Fran de Mel
finishing second and third respectively.
Versatile Suwen Selvaratnam getting 86 gross won the Ladies Gross
title with ease gaining a ten stroke lead over second placed Manori
Jayakoddy who got 96 Gross. Sonia Boyle 100 (on a count back) and Fran
de Mel 100 occupied the next two places.
Men's Division one nett title went to Sujeewa Lankatillake and the
Division two Nett title went to Per Cramborn.
