Sri Lanka Squash team for Asian Senior C'ships

An eight member squash team left the island on Thursday to take part at the 15th Asian Senior Squash Championships to be staged in Chennai, India from May 1-8. A significant feature of the present contingent is that all four members of the Women's team are representing Sri Lanka for the first time. Binura Jayasuriya is the only fresher added to the team for this tour.

A team underwent a rigorous training schedule since January under the supervision of Pakistani Coach Shahid Aziz assisted by C. H. Thalagala.

The team is managed by Mohamed Azmi, better known amongst Hockey & Soccer, whilst Mrs. Tamara Wanniarachchi, from D. S. Senanayake College will accompany the team as the Lady Chaperon as all members in the women's team are schoolgirls.

The teams: Men's - Navin Samarasinghe, Binura Jayasuriya, Gihan Suwaris & Yasir Issadeen. Women: Sharya Guruge, Damindi Udangawa, Dulakshi Elikewela & Gayara Jayasuriya. Officials: Manager: Mohamed Azmi; Coach: Shahid Aziz; Assistant Coach: C. H. Thalagala; Lady Chaperon: Ms. Tamara Wanniarachchi.
