HR award for Gemidiriya

The Gemidiriya community development and livelihood improvement project of the Ministry of Economic Development won the National HR Excellence Award for Performance Management at the International HR Conference, conducted by the Institute of HR Management, Sri Lanka.

Gemidiriya Deputy Project Director, Jagath Karunatilake receives the award from the chief guest, Director Asia, Chartered Institute of personnel and Development UK, Jerry Conner.

Gemidiriya has been recognised as a success story in respect of implementing human resource development with its comprehensively designed performance evaluation and development system.

Karunatilake said that this is the first HR excellence award received by Gemidiriya and it was encouraging. He said that the panel of judges evaluated the design and implementation of the unique staff performance appraisal and reward system of Gemidiriya by scrutinising documents of the last three years and audio conferencing.

Performance improvement and personal development appraisal (PIPDA) of Gemidiriya was recognised and admired. The comprehensive scheme of Gemidiriya with key performance indicators (KPI) and the 360 degrees appraisal system was in full conformity to government management rules. Performance and commitment of the staff has contributed to the project outcomes. All these aspects have been recognised and admired, he said.

Congratulating the Gemidiriya team, Task Leader of the project and Senior Economist, World Bank, Mina Munchi said "It is a great honour and achievement. It is a recognition of the tremendous efforts and hard work for developing an innovative HR system, and commitment to make

it work on the ground. Indeed it is a moment of pride for all of us."
