Malaysians of Jaffna origin hail peace-building measures

Malaysian Tamils of Jaffna origin have praised the peacebuilding
measures under way in the Jaffna peninsula.
A 30-member group of Malaysian Tamils of Jaffna origin toured Jaffna
and observed the rehabilitation and reconstruction activities carried
out in the region. They also held a meeting with the Jaffna Security
Forces Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe who briefed them on
the post-conflict situation in the peninsula.
Maj. Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer that the 30-member
Malaysian Tamils of Jaffna origin were the third generation in Jaffna
and they visited the land of their forefathers after decades.
Dato Kanagaratnam, a lawyer by profession led the Malaysian team
which included those serving in the Malaysian Armed Forces and
professionals in various fields along with members from the business
community.
The Malaysians also held talks with the Government Agent Jaffna K.
Ganesh and gathered information on making investments in Jaffna.
They also visited the sites of religious worship and other prime
landmarks in the peninsula."The Malaysian delegation also presented
4,000 books to the Jaffna Public Library and walked around the
refurbished Jaffna library building," Major Lal Nanayakkara said.
The delegation showed great satisfaction over the post-conflict peace
building efforts, Maj. Nanayakkara said.
