MPs urge UNSG to withdraw panel
by Uditha KUMARASINGHE
A group of 44 Parliamentarians in a letter to the United Nations
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called upon him to withdraw the expert
panel appointed to advise him on the alleged human rights violations
during the last phase of the conflict in Sri Lanka.
The letter addressed to the UN Secretary General states that the
Government of Sri Lanka had already taken steps to look into the matters
which Ki-moon has addressed by appointing the Lessons Learnt and
Reconciliation Commission.
The Parliamentarians have inquired from the UN Secretary General as
to why he had appointed a panel of experts and said that the Secretary
General has violated the sovereignty of the country through this action.
