Gold Award in the large-scale State sector category.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the award to CEO SriLankan
Catering, Sarath Fernando at the BMICH last week.
SriLankan Catering recently became one of a handful of airline
caterers in the world to receive the ISO 14001:2004 certification for
Best Environmental Practices.
CEO SriLankan Catering, Sarath Fernando said: “This award is a
tribute to very precise planning, much hard work and brilliant execution
on the part of hundreds of employees of SriLankan Catering, spearheaded
by our Environmental Excellence Committee.
We have been raising awareness among our staff on the importance of
conservation, and the results are now very clear for all to see.”
SriLankan Catering reduced its electricity consumption by 10 percent and
fuel usage by 40 percent during the last year, among a series of planned
conservation efforts. The awards, which were presented for the first
time, recognise the conservation efforts of organisations in five
categories over a three-year period, as evaluated by the Sri Lanka
