Felicitation to Murali

Cynosure, the dark Lion from Sri Lanka
Ready to capture the batsman
At the crease
Having a safety wooden bar in his hand

Tossed the ball and took the run
Uprooted the middle stump in the first spell
The batsman was out
Back to the pavilion for nought

The opposing team
Demolished by the spinning ball
How wonderful was his bowling
Murali is a national wealth

- Wijeratne Dahigamuwa

My humble prayer

Oh Lord! Listen to my humble prayer
And give me solace
Give me strength and the courage
To face the challenges in life
The strength to have mercy on those who hurt me
By action or even through words
Give me the patience to listen to what others speak against me
Oh Lord! Give me the opportunity to listen to good advice
Of elders and refrain me from the unscrupulous and the wicked
In this society of gentlemen - rascals
Finally the great Lord! Give me the forebearance and courage
To overcome my weaknesses so that I could breathe my last
As a human being devoid of hatred and misunderstanding
And feel that I had not lived in vain
To you great Lord! In obeisance I worship you forever
Till my last breath

- Don Sarath Abeyesekera

Ramadhan

Praise be to the Almighty
Who oversees us so rightly
We look forward to the new moon
That will be discovered soon
When we will fast and pray
Offer our charity
In yet another month
Of kindness and warmth
In the glorious time of
Ramadhan!

- K. Mohamed

Waiting forever

As an infant waiting for her mother’s milk
As a child waiting for her father’s arrival
As a spinster waiting for her lover’s glance
As a wife waiting for her husband to return home
As a mother waiting for her child’s return from school
As a grandmother waiting for her grandchildren’s visit
So finally waiting for the eternal rest
For the withered and tired eyes which had been waiting forever....
For somebody

- Chitra Meegahapola

My own freedom

Trembling small, tiny eyes;
Enchanting beautiful song it sings
Enrapturing me and lullaby reminds
Bewitching my heart for a while

And the duet entices
And the bird signals
The other is shy and hesitant to fly
I hear it again from the top of the sky

Glamorous love birds
Sing epic songs
Without handicaps
Meander all over the world..... !

- Shashika Uluwatta

Thank you

I thought that I had everything
When I was a child and I thought
I knew everything
But after I met you I knew there are lots of things
To learn from you
That’s true and I’ll agree with you!

Now I feel I have to learn more from you
When I was a teenage girl you taught me
Everything just as my parents but when
You said that everything was over
I felt as if I died!

But I kept you in my heart when I said
that I love you
I know you can’t leave me
Give my heart back
For I am still in love with you!
