Hirdaramani awarded Gold Flame for energy efficiency
The Hirdaramani Group was awarded the Gold Flame at the recent Sri
Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards. The awards were part of the
National Energy Week Exhibition organised by the Sri Lanka Sustainable
Energy Authority (SLSEA) and were presented by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa at the BMICH.
The award recognises the Group's success in reducing its carbon
footprint via a series of measures to reduce energy consumption. With a
strong focus on environmental responsibility woven into their corporate
culture Hirdaramani has made many advances towards driving green
manufacturing processes. The drive to reduce energy consumption across
the Group has involved a range of practices including the use of
renewable energy, natural and energy efficient lighting and evaporative
cooling systems, as well as a focus on incorporating more efficient
manufacturing processes ensuring less energy wastage.
Their eco-friendly factory Mihila has reduced its total energy
consumption by 48 percent and is the first apparel factory to receive a
LEED Gold Award from the US Green Building Council.
