Sri Lanka navy has deployed naval personnel and craft to provide safety to the civilians arriving on the historic islet Nagadeepa on pilgrimage. All ferry movements between Kurikadduwan Jetty and Nagadeepa are closely monitored by the Navy and specific guidelines have been issued to all ferry-operatives as per passenger safety and onboard life saving equipment.
A ferry carrying the public on pilgrimage to Nagadeepa and the Navy provides assistance to ensure their safety by deploying the patrol craft in the lagoon area.

Suspect in disguise nabbed

On a tip-off, police camouflaged as wholesale coconut buyers, surrounded a workplace at Aththangane in Chilaw, and apprehended a coconut wholesaler (a pol mudalali), a suspect wanted in connection with a murder case and absconding for five years.
